(WACHUMA, HUACHUMA, SAN PEDRO)
Another Master Plant Teacher of the Andes, Washuma grows into a tall cactus. People have worked with Washuma for thousands of years: boiling, blending and drinking or drying and powdering the cactus for healing, divination and enlightenment.
Washuma connects us deeply with our own hearts, as well as with the earth. When we commit to Journey with this Sacred Teacher, we soften the shells around our hearts that have toughened through the traumas and dramas of life. This softening enables us to heal disease at all levels and can provide us with a balanced perspective on our current and past lives, visions of the future, protection from harm, blessings and good fortune for future endeavours, and ultimately rekindles the Love and Light within all of us. We experience the inherent freedom and wisdom of our original Selves.
We experience Oneness.
Reading about this Divine Connection and understanding it mentally cannot capture the ecstasy of direct experience.
The Ceremony is most commonly held during daylight, and can last anywhere from eight to fifteen hours. The morning of, it is best to fast and simply sip on herbal tea or water. A few hours into the Journey, easily digestible food will be offered: there can be fresh fruit in the afternoon, and the ceremony will close with a magical plant bath and a simple clean meal to ground in the evening. The Ceremony will often include periods of meditative stillness and rest, as well as active treks through nature to awaken the medicine. Chanting, dancing, breathing exercises and other specific energetic-awareness practices also aid in empowering the medicine and easing the Journey. This medicine is purgative and cleansing, but can feel less intense than Ayahuasca in this aspect. Whatever does not come up, will flow down and clear out within a day or so.
As described by an Andean Shaman, the Journeyer can experience “…first, a dreamy state… then great visions, a clearing of all the faculties… and then detachment, a type of visual force inclusive of the sixth sense, the telepathic state of transmitting oneself across time and matter, like a removal of thoughts to a distant dimension.”
Ultimately, it is a personal Journey of self-discovery. It is unique, as we all are; the experience is guaranteed to be unforgettable, and can ultimately change your life for the better, forever.
Like other plant medicines, Washuma requires dietary adjustments and fasting to properly.

The active ingredient in Washuma is mescaline, or 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenethylamine, an alkaloid found in other plants and cacti, such as Peyote, known for its visionary effects similar to other serotonergic entheogens, such as psilocybin and LSD. In the brain, mescaline interacts with certain receptors of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which leads to particular shifts in sensory perception. It acts to awaken the sympathetic nervous system and focuses on the peripheral nervous system, which connects the brain and spine (the central nervous system) to the limbs and organs.
This medicine is very powerful, and there are specific reasons not to partake. It is not to be mixed with any other pharmaceuticals, and especially those which effect your brain function, heart or blood-flow, such as antidepressants. If you are diabetic, please inform us beforehand so we can adjust meal times on Ceremony days to suit your needs. Let us know of any conditions you’re experiencing, and any medications you have been taking in the last year or more leading up to the Ceremony. Integrity is vitally important. Be honest with yourself and honest with us, so that we can all work together to cultivate harmonious experiences for the best health of all involved.
